My name is Cletus, and my siblings and I grew up in Lapaz, Ghana. Our parents had difficulty providing for us, so our grandparents and auntie primarily cared for our upbringing. Ghana faces many problems that are common among those in our region. The lack of natural resources and many impoverished living conditions have proven difficult for many. While my family certainly lacked financial means, we did not lack love. Our grandparents and auntie saw that we attended church each week and strived to make a better life for us. When our grandmother, the matriarch of our family, passed away, it was devastating.

We continued to attend church, being faithful to my grandmother’s wishes, and by God’s grace, my life began to change. After hearing the message of salvation, one I had heard countless times before, it struck a chord within my heart. I knew I wanted to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Since then, my life has gained more focus, and I have been given a spirit of service. Introduced to Young Life by a friend, I was welcomed in and witnessed first-hand how comforting and life-giving it would look to live with a community of people pursuing God and pointing others to Jesus.

As a Developing Global Leader, I attend the University of Science and Technology in the Kumasi-Ashanti region. I am pursuing a degree in engineering and computer science, intending to provide IT services to my country and my community. I want to improve my family's and communities' lives so that such socioeconomic disparity becomes less prevalent.
