Raoul

My name is Raoul, and I live with my mother and sister in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. Our country is facing numerous problems stemming from poverty, hunger, disease, and political strife. With more than half of our population having no access to reliable drinking water or waste disposal, living conditions can be terrible. As a widow, it has proven hard for my mother to be the sole provider for our family. Although I do all I can, it remains difficult to stay optimistic.

Growing up in a Christian household, my faith has been my saving grace. My relationship with Jesus began during a Bible teaching session when I felt moved in prayer. I felt a strong connection with my Heavenly Father, and I knew I wanted to accept Him into my heart and life. Shortly afterward, I was blessed to be invited to attend Young Life by my English teacher. She supported me in difficult times and introduced me to a joy-filled community. I realized that serving was a way I could give back to the Lord. Now, I am a team leader and sharing God's message of love, compassion, and hope brings me joy.

As a Developing Global Leader, I will be the first in my family to graduate from college. I will earn a civil engineering degree from Loko Tertiary and Technological University. I chose civil engineering because it is a fascinating field that offers the opportunity to help build the critical infrastructure my country desperately needs. This career will help me lift my mother out of poverty and send my little sister to school. Ultimately, I'm passionate about uplifting others, while spreading the boundless love of our Heavenly Father.
