Roberto de Jesús

My name is Roberto De Jesus, and I live in a ministry house with two roommates in La Vega, Dominican Republic. My parents divorced shortly after I was born, however as a child, they never told me why. I traveled between the different houses throughout my childhood which made me emotionally insecure, especially since my father verbally abused me. My parents took me to different churches of different religions. I lived in a confused way. On several occasions, I went to school hungry, and I was a bit problematic in school because I struggled communicating in a healthy way and got involved in many fights.

When my father passed away it was a very sad and empty season in my life. During that time, I was invited to Young Life camp, where I had the opportunity to hear about Jesus and I gave my life to Christ. Later, I volunteered at camp with the animation team; it was an unforgettable experience that strengthened my faith. Since then, I have lived by the grace of God. I have come to learn that my greatest strength is knowing that I have a God who guides me and longs to be by my side, and it is my joy to share that truth with teens in my community.

Now as a Developing Global leader, I will continue growing in my intellectual development and learn to teach young people about sports education and grow in my spiritual development as I share the word of God. It is my biggest dream to work in a school and teach young people. My degree in physical education will affect me in a positive way and help me to continue growing and to be able to help my family financially.
