Abdul

I am Abdul and I live in Freetown, Sierra Leone, with my mother and two sisters. When I was a little boy, my father died and left a huge void in my life. There was little or nothing to eat for a day; what our mother provided for us was not enough, but we had to manage it because that was what she could afford. We sometimes went to bed hungry. With hard work and dedication, I was able to have success in passing my secondary school examination.

I meet Jesus in 2018 when I was diagnosed with heart disease at the age of nineteen. We did not have the means to pay for the operation and I turned to God knowing He was my only hope. I got connected to Young Life through one of my friends who invited me to club. I was really touched by the fun, laughter, games and the message of Jesus Christ and I gave my life to Him by night’s end. I continued to grow in my faith as I went through Campaigners and eventually was trained to become a volunteer leader.

Now a Developing Global Leader, I am studying economics at Fourah Bay College. My vision and hope are to become an economist and change our country’s economic problems. As a part of the DGL program, my goal is to finish my degree program, bring more growth to my club and train more new leaders to the ministry work by God’s grace. I am dedicated to giving my all to this endeavor and am motivated to become the first in my family to graduate from university.
