Litha
Litha lives with his parents in the town of Mfuleni, just outside of Cape Town, South Africa. His childhood was challenging because circumstances forced him to live apart from his parents for four years. Being so young, he was unable to understand why he was not with them. This separation contributed to Litha’s shyness and reserved personality. It left him feeling insecure, and he began to develop bad habits to cope. Just recently, he was able to return to living with his parents. Navigating a new environment and new relationships has proved challenging yet life-giving.
After reuniting with his parents, a simple invitation to attend Young Life changed the trajectory of Litha’s life. Upon reading and discussing the Gospel in Campaigners, Litha felt called to begin a relationship with Jesus. He shares, “I was transformed by the Word of a God … it became real to me.” Jesus began changing Litha’s heart and habits. He felt a stirring to serve others and discard the negative behaviors hindering him. He now attends a local church and serves as a Young Life leader. Day by day, Litha gathers more confidence and courage to step into the lives of high schoolers with the hope a simple invitation would change their lives as it did his.
As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, Litha is studying computer science with an emphasis on farming management at Boland College in Worcester, South Africa. He aims to provide a better future for himself and his community. The once painfully shy young boy is now a young man discipling others. He is grateful Christ “transformed his life” so he may share the love of Jesus.
