My name is Haydee and I live with my parents and younger brother in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In my family we explained faith through real life experiences like the times when you don't know what you are going to eat, or when it rains and the house fills with water, or when you have two small children to feed with no idea from where food will come and you still have your confidence that “God will provide”. I learned about faith from my parents, who always cared about their children and saw God as a relationship and not so much as a religion. I come from a beautiful home.
I have always enjoyed attending services, praying and participating in church activities. However, I remember one moment in particular that deeply marked my faith. During a spiritual retreat, I had the opportunity to participate in a moment of silent prayer and meditation. I felt a deep peace and an inexplicable connection with God. It was as if a light illuminated me inside and filled me with great joy. This experience confirmed God's mercy and made me feel his unconditional love. Since then, my faith has become stronger and more solid. I am currently doing the work that God entrusts of going and making disciples as a Young Life leader in my community.
Now, through the Developing Global Leaders program, I will be pursuing a graduate degree with high honors from Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in dentistry. I hope to have my own dental office and to continue working for Jesus to reach for the next kid through the ministry of Young Life.
