Marbelyn
My name is Marbelyn, and I live with my grandparents and my big brother in the city of Santiago, Dominican Republic. When I was eleven years old, my parents left and went to the United States, so I began living with my grandparents during that time. It was a drastic change particularly because my grandmother attends church, but it was not the same religion as me, so there were many inconveniences.
In 2018 my father had a fatal accident and from there my life began to darken. I had many problems with my mother, and even my grades at school dropped. My mother, in efforts to raise my spirits, decided to send me to Young Life growth camp so I could clarify my thoughts. On the last night while we were having cabin time, my leader shared an example which showed me that I really needed to know more about God. I realized that I had not asked Jesus to be with me in my struggles. A year and a half later, as a Young Life leader, I held my first club and loved it. I continue to be excited about my own growth and the growth of ministry, and in spite of some ups and downs, I stop praying for God to send us more kids to help them to change their lives.
Now a Developing Global Leader, I’m studying medicine at Santiago University of Technology and my goal is to learn as much as I can so I can help people. While in the program, I want to show the love of Christ to every close friend that I have and be able to expand the club and keep growing as a great Young Life leader. I will be the first in my family to graduate from university.
