My name is Kumkum, and I am from a Hindu family in South Asia. As a young child, I was surrounded by domestic violence and financial instability. After my parents separated, my siblings and I moved in with our mother and maternal grandparents. Life was challenging and our mother worked tirelessly to provide the basics and pay our education fees. I attended a government school where resources were limited, but eventually my mother's perseverance led me to enroll in a program that provided a better education. Her tenacity to improve opportunities for us instilled an incredible drive in my personal and academic life.
While my mother emphasized the importance of academic pursuits and a strong work ethic, I knew I lacked spiritual peace. Gratefully, my grandmother and uncle shared their testimony. I knew immediately I needed to know more. I embarked on a journey for truth through the Bible and Christian fellowship. One evening during prayer, everything changed when I began my relationship with Jesus. Since then, I have anchored myself to His truth. My faith is no longer centered on deities and man-made statues; it now thrives on an authentic relationship with my Creator. Gratefully, I now get to share my testimony with others as a Sunday school teacher and Young Life volunteer.
As a Developing Global Leader, I study business economics at a local university. I will be the first in my family to earn a degree and envision becoming a marketing executive. I am passionate about mentoring young adults and ensuring they feel cherished and supported by others. Above all, I want to guide them in developing a personal and meaningful relationship with Jesus.
