My name is Fatmata Margaret, and I live with my mother who is a single parent in Freetown, Sierra Leone. I have never known my father, he died when I was young. Since then, our mom has been taking care of my older siblings and I with the meager income from petty trading. I have seen firsthand the impact of poverty and discouragement and refuse to walk in the footsteps of hopelessness.
I met Jesus when I was a child through baptism at church. However, I stopped going to church and attending church activities because my life was so full of stress and struggle. I was reintroduced to Christ in secondary school through Young Life. I began to grow in faith as I was involved in clubs and campaigners. I am a Young Life team leader and have a huge heart to support young girls and teen moms, knowing they face many of the same issues I walked through in my life.
Now a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am overjoyed and strive to become the first in my family to graduate from university. I am pursuing a degree in procurement and logistics from Milton Margai Technical University. My vision is to become a role model in my community and be able to give financial stability to my family. I want to pour into my ministry to support and guide young girls.
