My name is Fatmata, but people call me Darlinty. I am currently living in Lungi Freetown, a small coastal town in Sierra Leone with my adopted uncle. I was born in a Muslim background and have ten siblings; five brothers and five sisters. I lost my dad at age seven, and I am the last born to both parents. My mother was unable to take care of me and my ten siblings, so that prompted me to drop out of school. My struggle began as I looked for people to take me in their household so I could go back to school.
With my sad story shared in my community, someone stepped in to help. However, when I became involved with Young Life and gave my life to Jesus at an outreach camp, I was then pushed back to the street, once again reliant on others to support me and help pay for school. Amid the struggle, I believed in my heart that God has a plan for me. I am passionate about my role as a Young Life leader in my community and continue to grow in my own faith as I talk about faith with the girls in my campaigners.
Now a Developing Global Leader, my vision is to finish my accounting degree at the University of Management and Technology and secure a job that will provide my needed support. I hope to become a role model and support Young Life kids with the help of my growing ministry and leadership skills.
