My name is Lilian, and I live in Lagos, Nigeria, with my mom and my elder brother. My father died when I was very young, leaving my mother to raise my older brother and me and has done everything for me. She is a food vendor with very little to bring home each day, providing enough money for our primary and secondary school fees, which has not been an easy task for a single mother.
Reflecting on my childhood, I was stubborn and used to fight in school because of the stress at home. I was called ‘church girl’ in our community because our mother used to take us to church almost every day. However, there was no time for me to have a one-on-one relationship with Christ, until I was invited to attend Young Life club. I met Christ personally at one of our outreach camps. Since that time, I have changed, and I am no longer the same stubborn girl I used to be. I have been mentored closely and now am a Young Life leader in my community. My goal is to develop strong Christian teenagers to become leaders just as I was mentored to become a leader by helping them discover who they are in Christ and encourage them to walk in faith.
Now as a Developing Global Leader, I am studying mass communications at Crawford University. My hope is to come out of school at the top of my field and to positively influence younger ones, especially my Young life friends, in the way of Jesus Christ. I will be the first in my family to earn a college degree.
