Protais

My name is Protais, and I live in Musanze, Rwanda, with my mother and younger sister. My parents separated when I was young. This made growing up difficult as it was hard to get our everyday basic needs met. Since coming to know Jesus, I have seen Christ protect my family and provide miracles like helping me complete my studies even when it was very difficult.

I was invited to Young Life club when I was in high school, and I received Jesus into my life as my Savior when I went to Young Life camp. After hearing about Him and studying His Word in club and camp, I found that God has a big plan for my life. I am now a volunteer area director and I love the opportunity to speak that same God-sized hope into the lives of teens in my community.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying business and economics, majoring in entrepreneurship development and management at INES-Ruhengeri University in Musanze, Rwanda. I will be the first person in my family to graduate from university. I want to use my degree to help young people acquire skills and activities, such as soap making and making animal feed, and to help them see that they too can help provide for their basic needs. I also dream of using my gifts of creativity and hard work to create a small business that will support my family and bring job opportunities to my community.
