Herve

Herve lives in Kigali, Rwanda with his mother and three sisters. He is the firstborn in his family and recalls a simple but beautiful childhood. However, his life became challenging in 2020 when his father left his family. Herve had to take on the role of the head of the household and became the breadwinner. His mother does not have a job, and it is his responsibility to take care of her and his sisters.

Herve’s daily dependence on the Lord helps him and his family survive these difficult times. He met Jesus as His Lord and Savior at Young Life camp. He is a faithful Young Life leader and is described as a “teachable and talented leader who is making a lasting impact in the lives of teenagers in his community.” He is also involved in his local church and serves on the worship team.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, Herve is studying tourism and hospitality at East African University in Kigali, Rwanda. When he graduates, Herve hopes to find a job in the tourism industry in the culinary arts field, while continuing to share the love of Jesus with his teenage friends. Herve will be the first person in his family to graduate from university.
