Faith

My name is Faith, and I was born to two loving parents and have a large family in the Kirehe District of Rwanda. Growing up, our family enjoyed a happy childhood until my father became ill and passed away from cancer. After his death, our lives changed dramatically, and we began to struggle daily. Despite facing poverty, my mother worked hard as a farmer to provide for us, ensuring we had food, and our study fees were paid. As we were managing all the changes, we were dealt another blow when my best friend, my brother, passed away in a tragic accident. I experienced great love and pain in my youth but grew from both.

It was during my later teenage years that my life became more purposeful. When the pastor at a church service spoke about Jesus’s role in our lives, his words resonated deeply with me. I said yes to starting a relationship with Jesus and my life has never been the same. Shortly afterward, a schoolteacher invited me to attend a Young Life Club. I immediately knew it was something I wanted to be a part of, and now, after years of attending, I am grateful to serve as a team leader. Young Life showed me the power of sharing our grief and happiness with others.

Looking to the future, as a Developing Global Leader, I hope to be the first college graduate in my family. I am attending University of Lay Adventists of Kigali where I will earn a degree in finance. My vision is to become a skilled accountant for the people of my community and help others come to know Jesus.
