My name is Cheryll, and I live with my family in Thorngrove, Zimbabwe. Though Thorngrove is considered a safe community, it is not school-oriented. The community prioritizes drugs and alcohol over education, which limits many of my peers’ futures. While my parents came from a place of protection, we led a socially isolated life due to fear of negative influences. During my adolescence, it seemed no other child was “safe” for me to befriend, and I was sad and struggled.
Our parents have always done their best to encourage us to grow in knowledge and find joy in our faith. As a child, I knew the details of Jesus, but I didn't truly embrace a personal relationship with Him until high school. Over the years, I've realized the fragility of life, which has motivated me to take my faith more seriously. I've deepened my relationship with God through daily devotionals, prayer, worship, and praise. My journey with Christ has made me more patient and thoughtful. Today, He has given me a heart to serve others and share His love.
As a Developing Global Leader, I will be my family's first college graduate, earning a degree in social work from Zimbabwe University. My vision is to be a source of support and a positive influence in my community. I want to offer sound advice and help others navigate their trauma. As a youth, I felt disconnected from my peers and my Creator. As a social worker, I aspire to mentor others and bring people closer to God. I truly want to be an example of light in my community.
