My name is Nesly. I live in Chinandega, Nicaragua, with my father, stepmother and my younger sister. I have a brother, as well, and I am the oldest. When I was a child, I remember my family having a lot of problems. My mother left me, my father and younger brother alone when I was just 6 years old. This left a great deal of sadness in my heart because I thought I was to blame for her abandoning us. That sadness turned into resentment toward my mother. I tried to find happiness and approval from friends, but I still had an empty heart. A friend then invited me to Young Life camp, where I found Christ, the healer of my heart and life.

As a child, I heard about Jesus through my family. However, I did not believe that God listened to me until I went to Young Life camp. It was there where I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, and He showed me real, unconditional love. I am now a volunteer leader and club coordinator with Young Life in the city of Viejo.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders Scholarship, I am studying public accounting and finance at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN-Leon) in Leon, Nicaragua. With my degree, I would like to start a career in accounting and finance and ultimately create a company that is dedicated to car rentals, construction equipment and buses for public transportation. I also want to continue growing my Young Life ministry as area director and open more clubs so that young people in my city and country know Jesus.
