Praise

My name is Praise and live in a very poor home in Agbado, a small village on the outskirts of Lagos, Nigeria. I have three siblings; one brother has struggled with long-term health conditions and getting his medication has not been an easy task for our parents. I do menial jobs to help provide for my siblings, it is important to me to help carry the burden for my parents. My greatest challenge has been overcoming disappointments and navigating the realities of poverty in my family. I was born into a Christian home and our local church is an assembly where everyone acts as a family. I became acquainted with Young Life as a teenager in my neighborhood through my leader. It was not easy for me to submit myself to Young Life because I felt insecure about myself and about building a relationship with him and the other leaders, however over time, they are the ones who have encouraged me to be the leader I am today. Now a Developing Global Leader, I am attending the Federal University of Agriculture. I want to stand out as a great zoologist and be of great help to my family, community and the nation at large. As a DGL student, my goal is to continue to grow in confidence as I lead and minister to teens in my community, knowing what a difference it makes in a teens life to have someone encourage and believe in them. I will be the first in my family to graduate from university.
