Basanti is a faithful and curious young woman from a small village in South Asia. She reflects on her childhood as a time of struggle, her family battled poverty as her father tried to provide for their family as a farmer. She shares, "My main focus growing up was to try to give my family my full support and help however I could”, even when she lived away from home for periods of time to continue her education and go to school. Overcoming disappointments and loss pervaded her childhood, however, her experiences have also been a catalyst for great growth and maturing.
Basanti first heard about Young Life from her siblings. After learning about Jesus, she gave him her whole heart and gradually began to see the many disappointments in her life as opportunities to see God lead her in His plans that are far better than her own. As a Young Life leader, Basanti has learned to overcome fears and grow in confidence as she ministers to others.
Now a Developing Global Leader, Basanti is studying education at a local university and hopes to become a teacher and continue to minister to teens. Basanti shares, “I think my greatest strength is being goal-oriented and self-motivated through Christ. I give one hundred percent to ministry whatever the opportunity: contact work, club talks, discovery bible study, and diving deep with the high school kids.” Basanti will be the first in her family to graduate from university.
