My name is Elana (changed for my safety). I was born and spent my childhood in a city in Middle Eurasia, where my extended family lives now: my mother, father, three sisters and a brother. My family taught me important Christian principles that guide me through life. My biggest challenge was when my mom was diagnosed with cancer. The fear of losing a loved one, the difficulties in school, it all came in an instant. But in that time, I saw God's help and care. I felt hope, and I began to see how loving He was. God healed my mother and now she is getting better every day. Talking about God, praying, and reading the Bible have been present in my home since I was a child, because my parents are believers. My personal encounter with Jesus happened at the age of thirteen. It was at one of the Young Life camps where God touched my heart. After that, a conscious decision was made to follow Jesus Christ. God continues to work my heart, setting me free. Jesus has opened a new life for me in Him, where the foundation of everything is love. It has completely influenced all of my important decisions, especially regarding the future. I feel purpose and meaning for my own life and desire to show His love to people around me. Currently a Developing Global Leader, I study at a local university. I have connected my life with the "queen of the orchestra", the violin, one of the most complex instruments. Music is the language of communication, a language that everyone can understand regardless of background or ethnicity. With the help of music, one can convey important meanings and sincere emotions that people cannot always find or express in everyday life. I believe that this desire was produced in me by God: to create and talk through music. Also, music helps me to know myself. In the future I want to create my own musical projects, play in an orchestra and ensembles. The DGL program will equip me to grow in my leadership skills and help me to have more opportunities to talk about Jesus to those in my community.
