Ester

Ester is a determined and faithful woman who lives in a suburb of Pretoria, one of South Africa’s three capital cities. She was raised by both parents and lived with her four siblings until her parents separated when she was eighteen. Ester moved away with her mother who soon after became ill and required continuous caretaking. Ester was unable to juggle the demands and fees of school in addition to her mother’s care; Esther sadly had to drop out of school and did not complete secondary school with her classmates. Ester attended Catholic church with her parents weekly as a child, however at the age of sixteen she heard the Gospel in a fresh way at a friend’s church. She shares that she became born again and placed her faith in Jesus and began to grow. Later Ester married and had three children of her own, and has actively served in her church in many different capacities. Determined to complete her secondary education, Ester returned to school as an adult. It was there that she met fellow Young Life leaders and became a team leader for two clubs in her area. Resolved to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher, Ester is earning her early childhood development teaching degree at Edutel University with the assistance of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship. She is more committed than ever to teach children and reach them with the love of the Gospel. Ester will be the first in her family to graduate from university.
