Portia

My name is Portia and I am from a small town in South Africa called Dikebu. I grew up with my parents, and five siblings until my father passed away when I was twelve. His death had a major impact on my family and dramatically changed every aspect of our lives. I used the money my father left me to help put my younger siblings through primary school rather than applying it towards continuing my education. I did not know how my life was going to turn out. My family attended church throughout my childhood, and it remained the one constant in my life when my father passed away. In the years following, I got a job to help provide for my family, found ways to continue my education, and began attending Young Life in my local town. I found Young Life compelling and fell in love with the mission of introducing kids to Christ, knowing how much Christ had changed my own life. As a Developing Global Leader, I will be attending Edutel Higher Education to study education. I have found through Young Life and being a Sunday school teacher, that I have a deep passion for teaching. I feel blessed by God to be able to continue my education and fulfill my calling as a teacher with the hopes of equipping and empowering students to learn.
