My name is Jender and I am from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. I am the oldest of five brothers and enjoyed a happy childhood with my family doing things like playing basketball and going to church. My parents were often working long hours to provide for us, and I took on a parental role within my family. I have always been an example for my brothers, and to this day, I try and be a role model for them.
While I had attended church my entire life, it was not until I was seventeen that I understood what it meant to follow Jesus. I choose to follow Him because with God all things are possible, and all goodness comes from Him. I began leading Young Life because I found a passion for telling young people about Jesus and the impact He can make on their lives.
As a Developing Global Leader, I will become the first in my family to attend college. I am excited to set this example for my younger brothers and pray that one day they will have the same opportunities. I will be attending the National Evangelical University in the Dominican Republic to study physical education. My goal is to mentor students through basketball, and be a guide for them. I will also continue to lead Young Life and teach kids about what Jesus did on the cross.
