Sahr lives with his aunty in Freetown, the capital and largest city of Sierra Leone. He comes from a small polygamous family, but had to move out as a teenager due to problems with his stepmother. Sahr will never forget selling water in the streets to help raise money to feed his aunty and himself. He says of that experience, “It developed in me a strong sense of humility and a good work ethic.” He first became involved with Young Life when he was invited to camp, and has been serving as a volunteer leader since 2013. He loves doing contact work because he gets to meet teenagers on their own ground, which helps him to better understand the needs of his club kids. His area director describes Sahr as, “hard-working and influential with a servant-leader heart.” He is committed to impacting youth and helping to shape his community for generations to come.

Now, as a Developing Global Leader, Sahr continues to serve with Young Life while pursuing a degree in business administration, with a desire to promote change within the corrupt system. He says his greatest challenge in life has been to attain a quality education while living in poverty, and he is grateful for this incredible opportunity to improve his life story.
