Ansumana lives with his aunty and her husband in Bo, the second largest city in central Sierra Leone. He grew up with seven siblings. His parents barely made a living from the proceeds of selling firewood and vegetables from their small farm. After his parents both passed away when he was young, he went to live with his grandmother who supported him all the way through his primary and part of his secondary education. Living through a civil war and the Ebola crisis, Ansumana says, “My biggest challenge in life was actually figuring out how to finish high school on my own after my grandmother died. It was the first time I felt completely alone and really had to learn to support myself.”

Selected for the Developing Global Leaders program, Ansumana is now studying education. His dream has always been to see the people in his community educated and self-reliant. He hopes to be an agent of change for his country through his profession as a teacher. He will be the first in his family to graduate university.
