University: Groupe Loko University

Field of Study: Science and Medicine

Major: Agro-Food Chemistry

Alice lives with her grandmother and three sisters in Grand-Bassam, a city on the southern coast of Côte d'Ivoire, in West Africa. Tragically, her mother and little brother died in an accident when she was just eight years old. Although extremely difficult to live through, she says, “I am fortunate to live in a loving, joyful, and faithful family in spite of its poverty. I had my wonderful grandmother who is full of kindness and my sisters who surrounded me with their tenderness and encouragement.”

Alice became involved in Young Life as a teenager when her teacher invited her to club. Alice says she is grateful for the “second family” she has in Young Life. Now a volunteer leader since 2012, Alice has led a few of her own clubs, and even started a new ministry in a nearby city.

As a Developing Global Leader, Alice is studying agro-chemistry with the desire to get her doctorate in food chemistry and work in quality control for a major African food company. She wants to play a significant role in ending the food crisis in Africa by increasing the capacity of self-sustaining foods for poor families. Alice says, “I dream of seeing my country and Africa in general live in peace.” She will be the first in her family to graduate university.
