Wolphline "Wolie"

Facilitating the mobilization of community workers is an important task in Haiti, where recent years have seen continuous devastation of communities by earthquake, hurricane and flooding. Wolphline (who goes by Wolie) knows this well, having grown up in a shantytown on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. For this young woman, watching her parents, siblings and country struggle in the aftermath of tragedy has been a motivating force to use her administrative skills to bring volunteers together in service to her community.

Despite having grown up in less than ideal circumstances, Wolie says that she still had a good childhood, “thanks to God.” Growing up with a strong faith has motivated Wolie to do “everything possible to succeed in my studies and make known the love of Jesus to young people in need. Pursuing a degree in administration will help me create small trade businesses and train young people by teaching them to think creatively. I am ready to contribute to my country’s advancement.”

As a student in the Developing Global Leaders program, Wolie will be attending the University of Notre Dame d’Haiti. In a country where 1% of the population is able to college, Wolie will be the first person in her family to graduate from university.
