Pedro Jose

My name is Pedro. I live in Masatepe, Nicaragua with my dad and mother. I have one sister and five brothers, and now three nephews. My childhood was not always easy. My parents separated when I was 10 years old. I felt alone during this time. At one point, we stopped going to church because of my parents’ fighting. My mother ended up leaving us because she had another partner, and we lived with my dad. He worked and we were alone in getting ready for school, doing homework and housework. However, he was always there for us, giving advice and instilling Christian values in us. After high school, my dad could not continue supporting me in my studies, so I began working. I struggled with an alcohol addiction for four years and even influenced my brother to follow the same path. During this time, I felt worthless and decided I needed to make a change. This is when I was invited to Young Life club and camp. They knew my name, listened to me, and I felt valued and loved by Christ at Young Life. My parents then reconciled and my mother returned home.

I began my relationship with Jesus when I was at Young Life camp, and it is the best thing in my life. I was invited to Young Life by another boy. I then became a leader and am now an area director. I supervise clubs, find new leaders and donors, and develop new areas.

As a Developing Global Leader, I am studying education. I will be the first person in my family to graduate from university. With my degree, my vision is to become a teacher and to contribute to my city and community. I want my students to see Christ’s reflection in me.
