Uriel Eduardo

My name is Uriel. I live with my grandparents and brothers in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. As a child, I grew up with my parents, and there was constant fighting between them, myself and my brothers. This led to me feeling alone and locking myself in my room. I experienced depression and resentment toward my parents and brothers. I was also bullied as a child because I could not communicate well. I heard about Jesus, but grew up being afraid of Him. I was afraid that He would punish me if I misbehaved. As a teenager, I met a very different Jesus at Young Life camp. He loved me and helped me forgive those I resented.

I began my personal relationship with Jesus at Young Life camp. My older brother initially told me about Young Life and invited me to Club. I then went to camp. At camp, I met a loving, relatable, personable Jesus as my Savior. After camp, I became a leader and am now a club coordinator.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying public accounting and finance at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN) in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. With my degree, I want to be an accountant with my own accounting firm. I want to help support my grandparents and help people manage their finances. I also want to continue proclaiming the Gospel to young people in my neighborhood, city and new places where ministry does not yet exist.
