Juan Bosco

My name is Juan. I live in Granada, Nicaragua, with my mother and twin brother. As a child, my parents cared well for us. However, we had many difficulties. My father could not work because of health problems so my mother had to leave us for work. She would return home every fifteen days to help us with household, health and school expenses. My brother had health problems and was sick often. My dad then passed away. This immense loss shaped who I am today.

My relationship with Jesus began after I lost my dad. This was the most difficult time of my life. I was trying to find peace in things like alcohol and cigarettes, but nothing helped. I even questioned God’s existence having allowed my father to die. I was not eating. Then, a friend invited me to Young Life. I was welcomed with joy. I then went to Young Life camp where I was able to discover what Jesus did for my life, and I found my purpose in Him and His Love for me. He rescued me there and made me a new person. I now attend the same church I went to as a child, and I am an area supervisor for Young Life.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying languages. I have chosen this degree because languages, specifically English, will allow me to access updated information, to learn the latest scientific, academic and technological advancements and will open more doors for me. It will give me security and confidence in my profession and in Young Life ministry.
