Patience

My name is Patience and I live in a small city called Zwedru in Liberia with my father and mother. I remember as a child when war broke out in Monrovia in 2003. This catastrophic event caused me and my family to live in misery. We were left with nothing, no food to eat, no clothes to wear, and no place to even sleep. However, by the help of God, we were able to survive. At the end of the war, we migrated to Zwedru. We began farming and life slowly became easier and more stable. Through the farming activities, I was able to pay my school fees and complete high school.

My current life today makes me able to encourage those around me, especially my Young Life kids, who are walking through trials and discouragement. I first got involved in Young Life in high school and later became a leader in my community. It is my highest privilege to be involved in kid’s lives. I support them at their sporting events, listen to them talk about what’s important to them and help kids consider the direction of their life and offer help for their future.

Now a Developing Global Leader, I am able to realize my own hopes for the future by becoming the first in my family to graduate from university. I am studying nursing at Grand Gedeh University College and plan to enter the medical field, desiring to see quality health care available to each and every person in my community. By the grace of God and through the help of the DGL program, I am going to make a difference for my people.
