Diane

Diane is a resident of the Gazebo district of Kigali, Rwanda and lives with her parents and four siblings. Unfortunately, Diane’s family struggled financially, making attending school very difficult for the children of the family. She praises God that she and her sister finished school, even though it was definitely risky at times, like when she was chased out during an exam. That being said, Diane’s brothers were unable to finish school and fell into a bad path, pursuing a lifestyle of drugs to cope with their struggles. Diane shares that it was very hard for her and her parents to witness loved ones living that way, but it led her to stay close to her parents as well as begin her journey with God.

Diane always prayed to God before getting involved with Young Life, but quickly realized at camp that she did not fully know Jesus until hearing about what He did on the cross. That good news resonated with everything she knew about God and anchored her faith and hope. Diane envisions personally reaching out to kids that are in the same position she was in before Young Life, kids who attend church or pray but do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Now a Developing Global Leader, Diane is studying hospitality at Davis College Akilal Institute. She hopes that with a college degree she can pursue a career in tourism that will enable her to impact her community and help sustain her family. Diane’s passion for the next generation to know Jesus compels her to fulfill her dream of being the first in her family to graduate from university.
