Luke

Hi, I’m Luke and I live with my mum, dad and brother in Bangor, United Kingdom. The first significant life experience that shaped who I am today is learning to play the concert flute. I have been playing for over ten years and have won many prestigious awards. I’ve learned persistence, rigour, attention to detail and how to accomplish tasks that have a high margin of difficulty. I was very blessed to be born into a Christian family and Jesus has been prevalent throughout my life. I made a decision to follow Jesus early in my life.

Once I trusted in the Lord, my life began to change. Not all at once, but day to day it improved. My greatest life challenge came in 2022 when I dislocated my shoulder playing rugby. I lost all of my independence; it was extremely tough as I was struggling mentally at the time. Losing the ability to be active was crushing due to sports being a key way to reduce stress for me. To overcome this, I had to put my trust in the Lord and let all control to Him; it wasn't easy but looking back, it was definitely worth it. I became involved with Young Life while attending West Church and later a Young Life leader.

Young Life has been such a blessing in my life. It has allowed me to make some lifelong friends and has really pushed me physically and mentally. Becoming a leader has allowed me to give back to the church that has given so much to me. With the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I hope to help young people learn to put their trust in the Lord while studying history at Queens University of Belfast.
