Promise

My name is Promise. I grew up in a Muslim community in Liberia. My father is Muslim and my mother is a Christian. I am the last girl born to my mother and am the middle of seven children. My greatest struggle growing up was not having enough for my school fees. I was desperate to complete my education and ended up receiving help from various family members in order to complete high school.

Although my mom was a Christian, we were never able to attend church growing up. In high school, I heard about Young Life from a leader who came to our school at lunch and talked to us about Jesus. At camp, I came to accept Jesus Christ as my Savior. Once home, I dove into attending club and began to go to campaigners where I learned to read and understand the Bible. My joy could not be contained, and I began to tell other friends about Jesus. Many of my friends joined Young Life; today I am a leader of my own club and campaigner's class. My family can hardly recognize the person that I have become!

I enjoy serving my community and am studying science and medicine at Smyth University. I hope to become a nurse that can help meet people’s physical needs, while continuing to mentor young people through my involvement in Young Life. I know that I can lead others to Christ by serving them and I hope that this will lead to my family one day coming to faith in Christ.
