Suprison

My name is Suprison and my friends call me Surprise. My childhood was difficult and challenging because of the Liberian Civil Crisis; there was no time to play, visit relatives, or even attend school or church. I was born in Paynesville City but because of the war, my parents moved to Lofa County for safety. My parents have five children, my little sister and I are the biological children and the others were adopted during the war.

Throughout my adolescence, I was highly involved in gambling and stealing, desperate for money to help meet my basic needs. I was discontented with what I had and always wanted more. When I was invited to Young Life club for the first time, I immediately felt I belonged to a family. I had lot of fun and the message of Jesus was given in the simplest form. At my first Young Life camp experience, the message touched my heart so deeply that I openly gave my life to Christ. After the camp, I started attending regular Campaigner meetings where my leader taught me about the love of Jesus towards me. Thank God for that great transformation that took place in my life that made me a new person in Christ. My leader advised me to go to God with all of my needs; I stopped stealing and gambling and started encouraging my friends to follow Jesus.

As a Developing Global Leader, I am studying accounting at African Methodist Episcopal University. My hope after I graduate from university is to work as an accountant and start my own financial institution to help my community with their financial problems. I am committed to walking with teens and developing leaders in my community by joyfully sharing my story and the love of God.
