Djeneba

My name is Djeneba (fake name for safety) and I grew up in a village in Mali. I am the fifth child of eight in my large family. As a child, I worked very hard; it was my job from childhood to work in the fields to help my father who is a trader. However, my favorite memory is of playing in the fields with my friends.

I met Jesus through Sunday school teachings when I was ten. Later, during an illness that overwhelmed my community, including me, I was miraculously healed through prayer and faith in Jesus Christ. It was then that I decided to serve Jesus Christ with all my strength. After such a difficult and uncertain time in my community, I began to read my Bible and ask for counsel about the questions that I had. Leading Young Life has helped to grow my faith and strengthen my communication skills, although I am still nervous to speak in front of a crowd.

My vision as a Developing Global Leader is to serve Jesus Christ in all places and in all circumstances. By studying tailoring I will be able to provide for myself and serve the needs of my community. My goal is to have my own workshop one day to help my community who really needs a good tailor to provide for basic needs. I believe that God will use me as a seamstress to help empower others to get their education and follow Jesus.
