Celeste

My name is Celeste and I live in Lima, Peru with my mother, father and my younger brother. I grew up in a family without economic stability which was the center of many fights between my parents. However, in the midst of their conflict, I decided to focus on my studies and other activities while attending a private high school, thanks to a scholarship. Even though my goals were being achieved, my family situation grew worse, eventually leading to their divorce. My life took a negative turn. I was separated from my younger brother for months and felt lonely. No matter what I did, it was as if nothing was going to be fixed.

I went to church from a young age, but I didn't have a relationship with God. It was more of a habit for me, a way to not be in my home for a few hours of my week. Thanks to friends at my church, I went to a Young Life camp and I met Jesus in a closer way. I decided to continue with Young Life, to learn more about God, and share it with my friends. God was there when my parents divorced. I became increasingly aware of my need for forgiveness and asked God to help me accept the difficulties in my life and be thankful for what I have.

As a Developing Global Leader, I hope to obtain my translation and interpretation degree from Women’s University of the Sacred Heart. I want to be able to help people communicate with one another and also be equipped to share about Jesus with those who don't speak my language. While I'm a university student, I want to share about God with my friends and classmates, and help Young Life College grow to reach more people with the love of Jesus. As for myself, I want to grow spiritually and acquire leadership skills to be able to share with more kids about the love of God and give them the best experience possible in Young Life. I will be the first in my family to graduate from college.
