Grace

Grace is a determined and creative problem solver. She lives in Mombasa, Kenya with her father, who is a teacher and her mother, who works as a nurse. She describes her childhood as “simple and normal,” growing up in a Christian environment where she attended Sunday school, sang in church choirs, attended camp and youth services, and read the Bible.

Although Grace grew up in this environment, she did not personally meet Jesus until high school. The challenges and disappointments of high school led to exhaustion and a complete lack of confidence. However, it was at this low point when her mum led her to Christ. Grace recalls, “God has completely changed everything in my life. He has led me to peace, and understanding, and love, like nothing else ever could or nothing else ever has.” Grace now is a leader in Young Life and WyldLife where she loves to “listen to kids’ stories and learn what's important to them because she genuinely cares about their joys, triumphs, heartaches, and setbacks.”

With the help of a Developing Global Leaders scholarship, Grace will attend East Africa Institute of Certified Students and study journalism. Grace’s leaders describe her as possessing “writing skills and people skills that enable her easily to connect with everyone and she knows how to empathize with others in an appropriate way.” She plans on using these skills to serve Young Life as well as in her future career as a journalist. Grace is passionate about “delivering information as an engaging story to an audience for whom it matters”. She is the first in her family to attend college.
