Abraham

My name is Abraham. My family and friends prefer to call me Bamz. My father was polygamous and had several wives. He had seven children and three wives; my mum was the second wife and had me as an only child. Growing up, my father was part of the National Resistance Army in Uganda, whereas my mum worked on the farm. At the age of fourteen, my father succumbed to severe injuries and passed on while fighting for the army. After my father's demise, my mum returned to her parents' home leaving me behind with my stepmothers. Life was very challenging since I was considered an outsider. I went to school with the help of well-wishers and was able to complete my high school.

Going through so many challenges in life strengthened my faith in God. I connected to Young Life through friendships where I volunteered as a teacher during summer vacation of my senior year. Young Life was instrumental in my journey of following Christ. Coming from a polygamous community, I was drawn to be a mentor to kids who were going through the same challenges I faced. I have seen hope spread in my community as I continue to journey with kids over the years.

As a Developing Global Leader, my greatest desire is to see a healed and empowered community. I am currently pursuing a degree in social work and social administration at the Uganda Pentecostal University. My dream is to develop leaders that will inspire others to pursue their dreams and become good stewards in our community. I will be the first in my family to earn a university degree.
