Ajinety

Ajinety, who goes by Ajji for short, is a remarkable young woman who has persevered in the face of great loss and hardship. She grew up in a mining village with her parents and three younger siblings. The death of both of her parents in 2018 changed everything. Ajji shares how “their death made me be an independent and responsible person as I was left with the unimaginable task to take care of my siblings alone.”

Ajji grew up in an Islamic home where she followed her father as head of the household even after becoming involved with Young Life and making the decision to follow Christ. The death of her parents was devastating. However, the Young Life family supported her, and encouraged Ajji to be strong and firm for the sake of her siblings. Participating in YL activities after school “loosened her mind and calmed her spirit” through those difficult days. As a leader, Ajji participates in clubs, Discovery Bible Study sessions and generosity events, including one she spearheaded that collected pre-loved clothes and distributed them to the needy in her community.

Now, a Developing Global Leader, Ajji attends Midlands State University where she is pursuing a degree in psychology. “Communities are flooded with heartbroken individuals; I was once one of them. I feel the gap, and I want to stand in that gap for others. I believe that by gaining more knowledge and practical experience in psychology, it will help me fulfill my dream.” Ajji will be the first person in her family to graduate from university.
