Ani

My name is Ani and I live in the small town of Eghvard, Armenia with my parents and siblings. My relationship with my father has endured many difficult stages throughout my life. He left the country when I was little and mostly has not been present in my life. Over the years we have had arguments that have left wounds in me, and I have wrestled with his opposition to my faith.

At Young Life camp I heard about Jesus for the first time. I understood how much I needed Him and decided to accept Jesus into my life and get to know Him more. After that, many things changed. The most transforming thing that I learned is how to love and forgive people. I wanted everything to be settled inside me and nothing to be left against others, especially against my father. I needed Jesus's healing in this area of my life. During those years I prayed for my father’s heart to soften and for the ice to melt, and I have seen God be faithful in mending our relationship. Before Young Life, I never had real friends, but through Young Life I met people who became my best friends. I love them with God's love and they love me too. Having real friendships was a turning point for me and I continue to be blessed and learn from them. Now, as a Young Life leader I am friends with countless students and hope to show them the transforming love of God through our friendships as well.

I study economics at Armenian State University of Economics. As a Developing Global Leader, I hope to pursue a career through which I will be able to help my family and my community. I chose a profession in business management because it equips me with many transferrable skills and teaches me to effectively communicate with people. This knowledge is already helping me serve in ministry with Young Life. I am learning to communicate with different kids, seeking to understand them well and build friendships that communicate God’s love.
