Rogers

My name is Rogers but people call me Muko. I grew up in Makindye, a slum area of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. I come from a very humble background; I am the youngest of three children raised by our mother after our father left our family. In order to feed and provide a good education for us, my mother worked hard doing various jobs just to ensure our survival. There have been times of such scarcity that we had nothing to eat but porridge for days on end.

My first experience with Young Life came through clubs that I attended in my neighborhood. Unsure of what to expect, I went to camp in 2015. It was there that I found the love of Jesus Christ and grew closer to my Young Life leader. Over time, that leader proved to be the missing source of support and encouragement that I had searched in vain for in the absence of my father. I have experienced ups and downs, but I continue to grow and am hopeful for the journey ahead with Jesus Christ.

As a Developing Global Leader, I am attending Kampala International University. I plan to earn a degree in computer science and hope to attain skills that will impact my life, my family, and the community at large. As a student, I aim to study hard and grow as much as I can in Jesus Christ while serving in Young Life. I want to help build the ministry and further develop my natural leadership skills. I am honored to walk closely with teens in my community, encouraging and praying that they will have a life-changing encounter with the love of God. I will be the first person in my family to graduate from university.
