Annet

My name is Annet, but I prefer to go by the nickname, Favour. I am the second born in a family of six, and I live with my mother, grandmother, and my four younger siblings in a village on the distant outskirts of Kampala, Uganda. I have fond childhood memories of the time I spent with my grandmother, her love and care shaped much of who I am today. Tragically, the death of my father marked a change in everything I knew. My mother, who is illiterate with few opportunities in the work force, sought employment by going to people's homes to farm or clean as a means for providing for our basic needs. We have all had to grow up quickly and find ways to help the family.

My grandmother, being a prayerful person, brought us up knowing God. In high school, I became involved with Young Life and was immediately drawn to the leaders. I became challenged by them as they spoke of the sweetness of life with Jesus. I wanted desperately to taste this sweetness they were talking about. I knew immediately as I committed my life to Him, that He had already been faithful in my life and would never cease loving me. As a Young Life leader, I am eager to assure my teenage friends that there is power in faith. I have been changed by the love of God and want others to know that they can hope in a God that will never let them down.

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying finance and accounting at Kyambogo University and hope to become a CPA accountant. I want to use this opportunity to be able to reach out to more youth to tell them the good news of Jesus Christ. I plan to be an example of hard work and perseverance to my younger siblings as I become the first person in my family to graduate from university.
