Andrew

My name is Andrew, and I’m from Uganda where I live with both of my parents and four younger siblings on a farm. When I was nine years old my father was diagnosed with cancer, my family began at that time to rely on government assistance while my mother tried to keep up with the farm. I was able to attend high school due to a scholarship I received from church.

I was raised in a Christian household but did not feel a personal connection with God until I was older. I struggled to process the hardships my family faced until I began attending Young Life and learned to see differently. At camp, I had an experience with the Lord and began to feel His presence all over my life. Through the support of my Young Life leaders, I was able to form true community-based friendships that provided the encouragement and stability I had longed for as a child. Intimacy with Christ became the pillar I based my life on.

As a Developing Global Leader, I will become the first person in my family to graduate from college. I will be attending Kampala International University in Uganda to study medicine. It has been my dream to study medicine, having been deeply impacted by the way disease has affected families in my village, including my own. I hope to serve the people in my community who are underprovided for and show them God’s care through medicine. I want to inspire my Young Life students that they can also achieve their dreams and affect their community for good.
