Joshua

I am Joshua Turay and I am from Bo, Sierra Leone. I belong to an extended family of over twenty children; my father is a local palm wine tapper and my mother is a peasant farmer. Growing up was a very troublesome time with very limited resources and extreme hardship. Other than school, I spent my time selling palm wine and produce to support our family and help find the means to complete secondary school.

I met Jesus through my uncle to whom I went for medical treatment. He took me to a church where I was prayed for and led to Christ for the very first time. Later, I had the opportunity to attend a Young Life camp where I experienced the love of Christ through the Young Life leaders who were with us. Since then, I have been an active member of Young Life in Bo West, Sierra Leone. I have served teenagers in various roles and I am currently a volunteer team leader of a neighborhood club.

Now, a Developing Global Leader, I am attending Njala University and studying nursing. My vision, after graduating as a medical practitioner, is to see myself as a blessing to my community by helping the under-privileged people in my community. With God as my helper, I want to be a committed and faithful leader who serves God and humanity diligently and with love. I am the first person from my large extended family to have the opportunity to graduate from university.
