Maima

Maima is a faithful woman from Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia, a country located on the west coast of Africa. Living with her older sister in a rented room, she is the middle of eight children. Maima remembers her childhood as one of struggle and recalls being painfully shy with her peers. This led to bullying and isolation and she found herself clinging to obedient and moral behavior so as not to draw attention to herself. Maima's father abandoned the family when she was a teenager, but her mother was faithful to encourage her with prayer and God’s word. Shortly after, Maima accepted Christ through Young Life, clinging to the knowledge that Jesus is the author and finisher of her faith. Maima’s faithfulness and servant’s heart have been evident over a decade as a Young Life leader, with her current role being team leader.

Now, as a Developing Global Leader, Maima is pursuing a degree in public administration with a minor in management at the African Methodist Episcopal University. She wants to be an entrepreneur and to have the opportunity to create jobs and help others, especially the less privileged. Maima has a dream “to be able to impact her community and society at large by using her education to give back by helping meet the needs of people in her community.” Maima will be the first person in her family to graduate from college.
