Deborah

Deborah lives in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone in West Africa. Deborah, who says that her childhood was marked by sickness and stubbornness, has lived with her mother ever since her father died in 2013.

Growing up in a Muslim home, Deborah was invited to Young Life camp as a teenager and had an encounter with Jesus that changed her life. She chose to follow Jesus even though her father threatened to disown her for the decision before he passed away. She has been serving as a Young Life leader now since 2012 and hopes to be a positive role model for teenagers in her community.

As a student in the Developing Global Leaders program, Deborah is pursuing a degree in business administration at the University of Sierra Leone. She hopes to show the value of business initiative to the young and old of her community. She serves as her club’s team leader and mentors teen moms in YoungLives, all while growing in her faith and developing her leadership skills. Described by her recommenders as humble, proactive, and courageous, Deborah will be the first person in her family to graduate from college.
