North Macedonia

North Macedonia is a small, landlocked country the size of Maryland located in southeastern Europe, north of Greece. It gained its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991 and joined the United Nations in 1993. Education in North Macedonia is free and compulsory for children from 6 to 19 years of age. Approximately 40% of the university-age population is enrolled in school.

Religiously, North Macedonia is about two-thirds Macedonian Orthodox and one-third Muslim. The Constitution states that, "The right to express one's faith freely and publicly, individually or with others, is guaranteed," and, "the Macedonian Orthodox Church and other religious communities and groups are separate from the state and equal before the law."

Young Life established itself in North Macedonia in 2015.
