Founded in 895, Hungary is one of the oldest countries in Europe. It is a landlocked country in central Europe that shares its borders with Austria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, Ukraine, and Slovakia. Hungary was formerly a part of the Roman Empire, after the fall of which, ‘the Huns’ – people of the country at that time – gave the country their name: Hungary. Religion in Hungary is predominantly Christian; however, over the last millennium the percentage of Christians has dwindled from almost all of the population to about three-fifths. Roughly one-fifth of Hungarians do not believe in God or proclaim to be non-religious. Young Life began in Hungary in 2021 and continues to reach out to teenagers in this region through camp in a beautiful village along the Danube River.
