Major: Economics

The oldest of eight children, Fideline lives in Bukavu, on the far eastern edge of the Democratic Republic of the Congo near the border of Rwanda. Since 1994, the city has seen widespread violence and oppression as a result of the Rwandan Genocide, the First and Second Congo Wars, and the unrest in the wars’ aftermath. It is no wonder that Fideline’s dream for her country is to be at peace. Growing up in this setting with both of her parents unemployed she says, “It hurt to grow up without the basics. But my parents taught me to never give up, work together, be patient and persevere.”

As a Developing Global Leader, Fideline is studying economic science. Before becoming a DGL she had already been serving Young Life as a volunteer leader for five years and was handling the club’s finances. After graduation she hopes to get a good job so she can help others in need. Her area director describes Fideline as a great leader who gives good advice to young women. She will be the first in her family to graduate university.
