Angie

My name is Angie. I live with my mother in Jinotega, Nicaragua. When I was 9 years old, I began to notice fighting between my parents. I then became aware of my father’s infidelities towards my mother. There were also times when my father physically and verbally attacked her and would just leave. This brought emotional and economic instability for my mother and me. I was afraid. My father did not help with our food needs and my mother could not afford much because her teacher pay was low. I did not grow up with peace and safety. When I went to Young Life camp, I let everything out that had been tormenting me, and Jesus consoled me, filled me with His Love and forgiveness and gave me a new start.

My mother has belonged to a church since she was young. However, I did not attend by choice until I met Jesus at Young Life camp. My brother invited me to camp, and shortly after, I made the decision to follow Jesus and start a relationship with Him. I became a leader and am now an area director leading two clubs in different areas of Jinotega. I also support Young Life’s ministry for young mothers..

As a recipient of the Developing Global Leaders scholarship, I am studying forensic psychology. When I graduate, I would like to open a clinic and provide psychological care to young people. My heart is to serve my community and carry the name of Jesus in everything I do as a psychologist.
